Maine’s Alternative Caring is a pioneering medical cannabis dispensary in Windham, Maine. As a vertically-integrated company, we ensure that every product that reaches our patients meets our strict quality standards, as we oversee the entire production process from cultivation to processing to distribution. Our love for cannabis and our patients has propelled our growth since opening in 2018. The community has recognized our efforts, and we are proud to have been voted the #1 medical cannabis dispensary in the Sebago Lakes area multiple years in a row!
Early in Maine’s cannabis legalization, licensing was only awarded to a small handful of State Dispensaries. Once the medical cannabis program expanded, we were one of the first dispensaries in the State to receive one; making us Windham’s first cannabis dispensary!
Fun fact, the stretch of Route 302 that runs through Windham has coined the name “The Green Mile” for its rich cannabis presence. We’re proud to have led the way in bringing cannabis to our home here in Maine!

Your Guide to Accessing Medical Cannabis in Maine
If I’m out of state...
Many states have agreements allowing their medical cannabis cardholders to make purchases in Maine. For a complete list of participating states and up-to-date information, click here.
If I don't have a med card...
If you don’t have a valid Maine medical cannabis card yet, don’t worry! The process is simple. First, gather proof of residency in Maine and ensure you have a qualifying medical condition. Then, visit a licensed provider who will evaluate you and send your certification to the Maine Medical Use of Marijuana Program. Once you receive your certification in the mail, you’re all set to shop at a medical dispensary like MAC! We recommend starting here.
If my med card expired...
If your med card has expired, it’s time for a renewal. To renew your med card in Maine, you must follow the same process as when you first registered. Since the card lasts one year, you must see a state-licensed physician annually. Start the renewal process 30 days before the card expires to avoid lapses in coverage. We recommend starting here.
